EMBERS Gone Global at Social Enterprise World Forum
Check out our Founder and CEO, Marcia Nozick, speaking at the Social Enterprise World Forum in Edinburgh, Scotland! Marcia spoke to over 1,400 delegates from 50 countries on how EMBERS is impacting peoples’ lives and the community through social enterprise.
Social Enterprise Innovator and Disruptor
The Social Enterprise World Forum 2018 is an international event for social enterprises from all over the world. Social entrepreneurs and community leaders come together, share wisdom, build networks and explore how to create a more sustainable future. As a result of the conference, participants share successes, challenges and support, and develop the vision for a global movement.
Marcia was part of a rapid-fire round about non-traditional business models. She spoke alongside other innovators and disruptors from Scotland, Canada, Australia, Ethiopia, Northern Ireland and United Kingdom.
Work is Transformative
At EMBERS, we believe that work is more than just money in your pocket. Work builds a sense of purpose, increases self-worth and transforms people from the inside out. Marcia shared the EMBERS social enterprise story through the lens of one of our workers, Michael Dyck. From living on the streets with an addiction, Michael turned his life around and now has a full-time, permanent job.
Investing Profits in our Workers
Each day, EMBERS employs over 250 people who are looking for meaningful work. That’s 250 people every day making a change in their lives. We’re here to see them through that transition.
Marcia explained to the Social Enterprise World Forum audience that we first placed Michael in low impact jobs, like pushing a broom. We soon recognized his potential for growth as a reliable, hard-working and positive worker. As a result, we invested in that potential and trained him as a Construction Safety Officer.
