Small Business Owner Works for Families
Going shopping with young children can be tough at the best of times, but trying to find good quality, healthy toys and products for toddlers and young kids with them in tow can be downright impossible. Sue Sinclair was all too familiar with the hassle of trying to shop for safe, healthy products for her young family and got the idea for her online store.
In 2008, Sue Sinclair launched Raspberry Kids, an online lifestyle store featuring products for little ones and families.
After getting her small business up and running and starting to build a good client base, Sue reached out to EMBERS Ventures for some help in figuring out what her next steps were.
“The main challenge was determining the best course of action to move forward with. It’s easy to get caught up in the status quo and the day-to-day so it was really helpful to look ahead as well as the big picture,” says Sue.
Sue heard about EMBERS small business coaching from a friend and fellow business owner, and she reached out to the Grow A Business program.
“It’s invaluable to have outside eyeballs look at your business from time to time, “ Sue says. “A consultant or business coach can provide an objective view, keep you on track, and offer significant guidance on how to move forward.”
As a purveyor of healthy and fun products for kids and parents, Sue focuses on providing a level of quality that aligns with her values – if she can’t see herself buying the product for her own children, then it doesn’t make the cut. Products include quality toys, bath and body care, art supplies, litter-less lunch gear, and unique gifts.
For Sue, the highlights of running a business are many, but a key reward is feeling good about the products she sells.
“My favourite moments of running the business are seeing the delight of the parents and children we serve, and knowing we are providing great quality products that we can feel good about selling.”
Sue also loves the freedom owning her business provides her – being able to have a flexible work environment allows her to figure out her own plans and manage a work-life balance with her family.
Sue is still in the process of assessing what the future holds, but remains optimistic as she evaluates a few different options.
“EMBERS has been a great resource thus far and we are excited to see what the future holds.”
