EMBERS Ventures Business Alumna with a lot of Heart
EMBERS Ventures Grow A Business mentorship program helped Ayira Heart get her counselling practice on the right path
On an overnight ferry ride in the Philippines, Ayira Heart had a profound dream that changed the direction of her life. Prompted to examine all the ways in which she had learned to protect, and project herself in the world, Ayira found herself drawn to becoming a counsellor.
Years later, Ayira graduated from the Vancouver College of Counsellor Training, and in 2011, became a Registered Professional Counsellor. Ayira now operates her own small business where she helps individuals understand what is going on in their body. Intent on helping people develop a trust of self, and the ability to stay present in the body, Ayira helps people regain a sense of personal connection and power.
With a sincere talent and a sense of confidence in helping people live a more fulfilled life, Ayira still felt challenged by the various aspects of being an entrepreneur. After hearing about the accessible self-employment training at EMBERS, Ayira enrolled in the Grow A Business program, where she was set-up with mentor Steve Deller.
“I had some sense of what I needed to do to succeed, but my business was not thriving,” Ayira says. “Steve was the perfect consultant for me in that he was challenging and flexible. We had so many incredible ideas together and I still have a list that I can refer to when I’m looking to improve my business.”
When it comes to marketing, Ayira initially experienced some set-backs. Yet by attending EMBERS workshops, she’s not only learned how critical marketing and social networking are to the success of any small business, she’s also been able to develop and apply these skills.
“I had some unexpected difficulties with my website which interrupted my progress. Luckily through EMBERS, I was able to get into the BCIT website development program and have another more improved website up and running.”
When asked how EMBERS self-employment training has helped her, Ayira says that EMBERS has been an invaluable self-employment resource.
“EMBERS is a hub of extremely talented individuals who give people what they need to succeed: the right support, the right information and a community whose culture is all about making ideas flourish and individuals independent. I felt that EMBERS believed in me and had the right resources to support their belief that I can have a successful business.”
Keen to the ongoing development of self-employment, Ayira is set to revamp her website once again, and expects the response will be positive: “I think this is typical of businesses – they are continually growing, especially online.”
Ayira offers both individual and group therapy, and works with Mindfulness, Gestalt, Integrated Body Psychotherapy and Somatic Experiencing-based therapy. If you find yourself feeling stuck, depressed, or anxious, think about reaching out to Ayira. You can find her at ayiraheartcounselling.ca
