EMBERS Ventures Self Employment Program

Since 2001 EMBERS Ventures has been offering self employment training and small business coaching in Vancouver in the form of our Build A Business (BAB) Program. Providing help for over 600 people since its inception, the training program has been one of our cornerstones.

Building on that success, EMBERS Ventures is now working in partnership with Downtown, Mid-Town and Northeast Vancouver Work BC Employment Service Centres to deliver the new 48 Week EI Sponsored Employment Program of BC.

EMBERS Ventures Self Employment Program is a 48 Week program that provides:

  • 10 Weeks of hands-on practical classroom training in business planning through our BAB Program
  • 1-on-1 support and advice on developing a Business Plan and Budget that will succeed
  • Experienced coaching and mentorship through the Launch Phase of your business
  • Specialized workshops to provide practical advice and tips
  • Long-term after-program small business coaching and support that never ends
  • Access to 70+ members of our Volunteer Business Support Team for help

At EMBERS Ventures, we have always focused on practical  training and support. This program is no different.

We understand from experience what it takes to start-up a small business and we work with you to ensure that you get the practical advice you need to succeed.

Application Process

Step 1: Contact the WorkBC Employment Service Centre in your postal code area. Use this website to find one in your catchment area: WorkBC Centres.

Step 2:  Make an appointment to see a Case Manager to assess your Eligibility (unemployed and have been on EI in the past three years).

Step 3:  Upon confirmation of eligibility, attend a 1-on-1 interview with EMBERS Ventures to assess business concept for viability and suitability.

Step 4:  If you are eligible, your Case Manager will sign you up for the Mandatory Self Employment Orientation and Assessment Workshop where all the information and application forms will be provided for the next intake.

Schedule

The entire program lasts 48 weeks. A new program starts every two months and alternates between EMBERS Ventures and our program delivery partner, BCIT.

Your intake greatly depends on how fast the paperwork gets done at your local employment service centre.
