Marcia Wins Prestigious Entrepreneur Award
EMBERS’ own Founder and CEO Marcia has won the TPH Charitable Giving Award at the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards in Toronto.
Chosen from 5,500 women entrepreneurs across the country, Marcia was recognized for her work as an exceptional leader of a non-profit organization that is creating positive social change and impacting the quality of lives in their community.
Marcia was in Toronto to attend the RBC Canadian Entrepreneur Awards gala and awards ceremony to celebrate inspiring women entrepreneurs from across the country. The 2015 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards are the pre-eminent national business awards recognizing the country’s leading female entrepreneurs.
“I am so honoured to win this award – especially since the other nominees are all so inspiring,” says Marcia. “It is wonderful to see the recognition of women entrepreneurs.”
Founded in 2008 under Marcia’s leadership, EMBERS Staffing Solutions is Canada’s only not for profit, socially responsible staffing company. The social enterprise provides jobs to people who face barriers to work, including people recovering from addictions, exiting the prison system, people with disabilities, and new immigrants. The vision is to use temporary labour opportunities as a bridge to connect people to full time employment and start rebuilding their lives. Thanks to Marcia’s entrepreneurial spirit and her belief that everyone deserves a second, or even third chance, EMBERS Staffing Solutions has grown from employing less than 20 people a day to sending out over 150 workers a day to job sites in 2015.
“As an entrepreneur, it can be easy to get caught up in the day-to-day challenges of running a business, but as a social entrepreneur I am constantly reminded of all the reasons I started EMBERS Staffing Solutions to begin with,” says Marcia. “EMBERS is making a difference – one person, one day, one job at a time.”
