EMBERS Worker of the Month Gives Back to Community
The EMBERS Staffing Solutions Employee of the Month program is made possible by our friends at Home Depot. They supply winners with $100 worth of tools and equipment to help them on their journey to becoming economically self-sufficient.
David is EMBERS Staffing Solutions top pick for the October Employee of the Month award. After presenting him with his award, we sat down to chat with David to learn about his experience with our temporary staffing agency.
What brought you to EMBERS?
I was looking for work and my buddy from the halfway house told me about EMBERS. I’ve been working here now for five months.
What kind of barriers did you face before you came to EMBERS?
Dealing with people is a big barrier for me. I am not a people person. I can work like a dog, but I am not good with people skills. I fail at interviews because I don’t know how to communicate with people. In previous jobs, other people referred me, and I didn’t need to interview. My bosses liked how hard I worked.
What is your favourite part about working for EMBERS?
I love the staff here at EMBERS. You helped me get my hoist ticket, and I didn’t have to pay for it. You have done some really nice things for me. I think you guys are under-appreciated. You feed these people all the time and give them free coffee and free food, donuts and bread. I want you to know that you are appreciated, so I do little things for the staff to show my appreciation. Chivalry is a value I hold close to my heart.
When you tell people about EMBERS, what do you tell them?
EMBERS pays better, and you pay for all the training. When I tell people about EMBERS, I tell them I just got out of the Federal Pen, and I had nothing. EMBERS gave me all the gear I needed, I worked all day, returned it at the end of the day, and got a $50 cash advance. EMBERS pays every week. There is no excuse for you to not go to work. I tell them where to find the office, and tell them to get a job.
The worker of the month generally receives a $100 gift certificate from Home Depot. You said you didn’t want that.
I don’t want to keep the gift card for Home Depot. Instead I’d like to donate it to the Sick Kids Hospital.
