Partnership Helps Small Businesses Get Online
When it comes to being an entrepreneur, you get by with a little help from your friends. For many people starting their own small business in Vancouver, EMBERS Ventures and BCIT are those friends.
Over the last three years, EMBERS Ventures has partnered with BCIT to connect new business clients with web development students.
The results? Beautiful websites that bring small businesses to life online. This spring, seven entrepreneurs will work alongside BCIT students from the Technical Web Designer Program to plan and build a new website.
Beata Kozma of BCIT explains how the program works.
“We take students with little to no knowledge of web design and give them the skills necessary to develop websites for small to medium sized businesses,” says Beata.
“For students and EMBERS Ventures entrepreneurs this experience is a win-win situation. The students have real projects to choose from, an opportunity to apply themselves with real clients in a safe environment, and at the end of the project a real portfolio piece to show off.”
EMBERS Ventures participants, on the other hand, get a new website for their small business.
With 38 websites launched to date, the program has helped dozens of small business owners establish a web presence to grow their business. Entrepreneurs like Chasma Heinz of Pastiche Food (www.pastiche.co), and Itzia Paz of Terra Nostra Gardens (http://www.terranostragardens.com/).
“I absolutely love the website the BCIT students built for my business! The guidance, skills and expertise they provided were invaluable,” says Itzia.
